Why You Should Be Your Own Client

time for me concept clock closeup

We all take care of someone or, for that matter, many in our day-to-day lives. We attentively listen to our clients to gather what their needs are, what they are looking for to improve their game or bottom line and we make sure we deliver. We want to set ourselves above what someone else can do for them so we add value and they won’t feel the need to outsource. That’s everyday, right? In order to do that effectively we need to be at our best and on our game to cultivate the best outcome possible. This is an appreciable reason why one should take themselves on as their own client and give that type of attention to themselves. Put yourself on your schedule whether it be for Yoga, physical training, meditation, expansion of yourself in some passion or principle, reading, alone time with some great music playing, a healthy meal, quality time with your family, friends or special person in your life, a social gathering, a trip, etc… When we devote time to ourselves we maturate a higher version of ourselves where that distends to all that we do and everyone we are connected to. Believe me, they can feel it as it is a FEELING universe rather than a DOING world and our actions are feeling based for the most part.

Get your calendar out and just do it! You’ll thank yourself for it and everything else around you will align fervently.

Migraines: My Grains?

Coaching Grain MigrainesMigraines…OUCH! Is it what you’re eating? Most definitely! Other triggers are hormone imbalances, stress, weather changes, perfumes, light, and more. Everyone is different. My son would get migraines often and also debilitating pain in the stomach for days. His eyes had dark circles, brain fog, lack of concentration, anxiety, joint pain, nausea, and weight loss. He couldn’t function. He would retreat to a hot bath for comfort and miss school . I also experienced migraines during PMS or if I ate certain foods. I then had our food sensitivity and genetic testing done and then knew why we were feeling this way. My son and I share many of the same markers in our DNA and food sensitivity list. We have quiet a few markers with single and double mutations but one of the main genetic mutations was MTHFR C677T. When we received our results back from the testing, we then removed from our diet wheat, grain, gluten, eggs (egg whites and yolks-there’s a difference), dairy, soy beans, ages meats, sugar, lentils, soy sauce, garlic (can you believe it?) as we had a high sensitivity to these foods and our genetics were being affected. We also added in targeted nutriceuticals that were specific towards our genetic mutations to restore the cell cycle and keep those bad genes off. Our health turned around immediately. No more migraines! We also are in balance in weight, serotonin, dopamine, and are now anti-inflammatory! Cheers on that!Other contributing factors came to light as well when we discovered digestion markers as well so a probiotic was in order. Luckily, as a health coach and certified herbalist, I already had probiotics in our refrigerator as a staple.

So much can be learned from a simple cheek swab and finger prick. Then, diet is key. This is why I am so passionate about helping others in my coaching. I call this “KNOW” dieting…and I would love to help you. They say, “Genetics loads the gun…lifestyle pulls the trigger.”

The way to OWN that Healthy New Year’s Resolution!

So, here we go! On the edge of 2015 and so many of us are thinking about what we want to improve in ourselves this year. A lot of us want to get into better shape and get healthy. There are fads that we are all aware of but there is one that most are not aware of. To be clear, this is not a fad but a lifestyle. I am talking about nutrigenomics-proper nutrition according to your personal genetic code. Nutrigenomics takes the “guesswork” out of knowing what to eat, what supplements are really good for you, and your body’s “need” list.

You want to start your year out with a bang so let’s put on the brakes for a minute until you find out what your “code of success” is. How to do that is simple. Get your easy cheek swab test done (call me) and then you will be able to see evidence of the invisible revealed about your genes. There, you will find out what genetic errors you have and how easily you can turn on the good genes and keep the bad genes off by simply taking the right supplements and eating the right foods. Your body will respond so well that you will wonder why your doctor did not tell you about this sooner. It is because doctors are doing their job in acute care and putting out fires. It is what they do so we cannot blame them. On the other hand, as a health coach in healing holistically, it is my job to inform you on your personal health chart so you can take your health/life into your own hands and make your best choices.

Wouldn’t it be great to know how to control your genetic markers that have misspellings, which almost almost all of us are born with, and feel the best you can? You can! To better explain, our cells need to cycle properly so that specific chemicals can be made within the cell cycle. We call this methylation. Without a clear pathway our cells are missing proper transport to their destinations within the pathway to process one chemical to another necessary for the health of the cell which will incur health problems somewhere down the road.

Wonder why you have migraines,  weight gain, depression, loss of energy and drive, IBS, fog brain, anxiety, immune disorders, sleep disorders, arthritis? The list goes on. This also relates to ADD, ADHD, autism, heart problems, ED, hormone imbalances, and so much more.

By knowing what your body needs genetically and what foods you are sensitive to you  have the power to regain or maintain health which can make all the difference in the world. We call this Personalized Medicine. It is ALL about you! Nutrition and supplements are not a “one-size-fits-all” by any stretch of the imagination. Nutrition and supplements are now targeted through knowing your code. Inflammation and stress wreak havoc on your body and can change your gene expression. These conditions can shut down the process of creating the necessary exchange in your cells and can affect dopamine levels, seratonin, weight stability, hormone balance, and more.

Wow! Now you know why you feel the way you do! So, ask yourself if you want to go through life suffering or do you want to harness the deal by knowing how to control it.

According to Practitioner Select…Methylation is one of the most important series
of chemical reactions in the body. It is involved in repairing our DNA and protecting it against toxic damage. It helps control hormones and reduces
homocysteine levels, a compound that damages blood vessels. Methylation supports detoxification, aids the nervous system, helps keep inflammation
low and aids many other important body reactions. The methylation cycle
starts with the amino acid, Methionine, derived from dietary protein and is found in foods such as animal protein, broccoli, turnips, sesame seeds and  asparagus. Methionine is converted to S- Adenosyl Methionine, (SAMe) and requires the mineral magnesium to do this. SAMe is an anti inflammatory amino
acid which helps support the immune system by allowing the body to
produce three important hormones; dopamine, serotonin and melatonin.
Dopamine is important for focus, concentration, short term memory, emotional
stability, organization, vestibulo-visual interaction, and coordination. It affects the levels of the stress hormones, epinephrine and nor-epinephrine. Serotonin is supportive of mood and is known as our happy hormone and is also required for the contractions of the gut. Melatonin is important for sleep.

If this is a bit much to take in we can break it down to what foods you need versus what to avoid as we will create a complete readout on what is going on inside of your body so you can get the full view after completing your testing. The chart is simple, we will go over it in detail. We are all into helping you live your best life and the lives of generations to come.

Start your year off right and get the facts before you delve into a nifty diet.

You will be able to KEEP that New Year’s Resolution SO much easier as you will FEEL the difference in yourself when you eat right versus when you eat incorrectly according to your genetics. I know, I live it everyday! The degree in which I feel or do not feel is exceptional and choices are so much easier as I only want to feel good.

Feel better, look better, and live healthier.

Your body will thank you for it!

Breaking the cycle: healing my son on the spectrum.

As mothers, we want to erase struggles and problems that our children have to make it easier on them, but in this instance it was to my son’s benefit to learn more about himself and work together with me to find answers to what was making him struggle. What we found was the key that opened so many doors, but let me tell you the story behind all of this first.

At an early age I saw my son take an abundance of extra time to make things perfect, draw, color, build blocks, and tie shoes He seemed to focus on everything in such detail that hours passed by though would disregard what he found to be nonsense and avoided it to the extreme. I just thought that this is how he processed whereas his twin was quick  and flourished in everything imaginable. I never compared them though I took into account just how different they were. I always knew there was a specific reason why my son needed extra time to do simple things that a lot of other children take for granted. Even simple things like answering a question, completing a task, doing homework, etc…took more time than usual. Schoolwork became a nightmare day after day. The frustration level was unreal for him and for me as a parent. All the patience, love, and understanding in the world did not solve the mystery of why he was struggling so much.

I did not know the extent of his difficulty until the dawning day came in 7th grade when a series of events revealed that he was, indeed, different than his classmates. The school had a sewage outbreak and the students and staff were dismissed until the mess was cleaned up for their safe return to class. Upon returning to class, it was within 15 minutes that I received a phone call from the school nurse saying that my son was not feeling well. When I arrived to pick him up I asked him what was wrong and he went on to tell me that his eyes were burning, his uvula was swollen and it was hard to swallow and he was dizzy and had a headache. I did the regular route of a doctor visit and had a strep test done and found nothing. He then felt fine  an hour after leaving school. This went on for a week when I thought to seek another opinion so I took him to his ENT. They said it may be allergies but found nothing again. My son was falling behind in school and felt he was really sick. Well, he was. He complained of headaches, brain fog, was getting acne, anxiety, depression, sleeping issues, pain in the abdomen and bowel. He had dark circles under his eyes, alarming breath, white spots on his nails, loss of weight to the point of scary, and no energy. Each time that he would return to school I would get a phone call within an hour that he was not feeling well again. The school thought it was now psychosomatic and that he just did not want to be in school. He became very frustrated and felt that no one understood how sick he felt. His stress level was off the charts which I found later that stress was another major contributor to his health problems. It was then that I met a lady who mentioned “sick building syndrome” and recommended an environmental physician to me for my son. I made the appointment and this doctor found that my son was highly allergic to mold that could have grown in the school from the sewage outbreak and that he has a “SNP” (single-nucleotide polymorphisms) that other kids may not have which shows up in his reactions to his environment. A SNP is a misspelling in the DNA code and can affect how humans develop diseases and respond to pathogens, , drugs, vaccines, and other agents. Now, it was clear as to why he was reacting the way he did when he entered the school. The principle was entirely not interested in his diagnosis and did not want the EPA coming in as this would affect the budget of the school. I elected to remove both of my sons from the school and educate them elsewhere. Good thing I did. There was mold in many parts of the building and this would have affected their health greatly. My son’s health increased but there was definitely a processing issue when it came to schoolwork and the anxiety continued along with other issues that he developed after the school incident. This worried me greatly and I searched for answers online, through friends, books, etc… I was baffled how I could help my son. Thoughts raced through my head wondering if there was something I could have done earlier or when I was pregnant that could have changed this outcome. Well, yes, there was…more on that soon.

Well, answers came in time as I was led in a Divine direction in my career and became educated in DNA misspellings through a doctor. He asked me to work for him and I became an epigenetics health coach. Inspired by the silent causes of SNPs in my son and  clients, I found that not only can SNPs be treated with nutraceuticals but food allergy finger prick testing was a HUGE eye opener on why my son was processing differently than the norm. It was the food he was eating along with his SNPs. Having my son tested along with the rest of the family was the smartest move I ever made. We found that he had double SNPs in MTHFR, MTRR, VDR, BHMT, and DAO. MTHFR is the top marker to be tested and I will go into detail on what MTHFR means later. We started him on Nutrigenomics, which is the combination of targeted nutraceuticals (supplements) and proper food according to his genetics. His speed in processing increased, confidence soared, skin irritations cleared up, migraines vanished, stomach aches subsided, he gained weight,  and health increased. He now talks about his dramatic change to everyone, especially students. What a complete turnaround from the quiet guy he was!

When it comes to these type of health issues, your routine doctor visit seldom suggests testing on a genetic level for underlying causes if blood tests exhibit a “normal” range. So that means the mystery goes unsolved. The same may even be said for a diagnosis like fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and autoimmune diseases. It could go undiagnosed and is a quite treatable genetic issue that could be remedied simply through a cheek swab DNA test along with a food sensitivity finger prick test, nutraceuticals, and proper and personalized cellular nutrition. I bet you can understand my frustration with the typical health care system we have! We all have health predispositions in our DNA and we can now do something about it.This is why I am so passionate about educating my family, clients, and everyone I can touch on this type of testing. You have to take the power of your health into your own hands.

Thanks to the 4 billion dollar Human Genome Project, we can now identify individual genetic mutations and know what is going on in your body on a cellular level before health conditions develop. We now can prevent these conditions before they occur. We call this controlling your “gene expression”. Our genes are susceptible and there are gaps in the DNA code that can be “filled in” with proper nutraceuticals and nutrition.

This leads us to expecting mothers. The fetus is very sensitive to the mother’s stress level and her diet. If she is eating outside of her safe zone according to her genetics and food sensitivity it can create problems in development of the fetus. Published scientific literature documents article after article on how the methylation pathway is responsible for autism in unborn children. The numbers are now 1:68 that a unborn child will develop autism. We now have the knowledge and power to change that through education on genetics and methylation pathway disturbances. These numbers are disturbing and we have to be active in educating and implementing what we now know to prevent the rise in autism.

Circling back, MTHFR stands for methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase – an enzyme that activates folic acid by adding a methyl group to it. We all are familiar with folic acid that is in supplements or in food. .If you have a genetic mutation of MTHFR, it will lower your ability to methylate -it is important that you find out if you have this marker. If you are not methylating then your body is not turning one nutrient into another. The same can be said that you are not turning toxins into non-toxins, and managing the usage or expelling of them by the body. If your body does not activate folic acid then you are susceptible to, in my son’s case, chemical sensitivities, allergic reactions, anxiety, depression, stomach aches, acne, and insomnia. We can also mention that if we are not activating folic acid then we are susceptible to cancer, strokes, eye disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, and more. Folate in the oral form takes care of the folic acid that your body needs especially when you have a genetic enzymatic methlyation issue in MTHFR. You should be tested to see if you, in fact, have this genetic mutation as it can be remedied quite easily and deter problematic conditions that go along with this mutation in your DNA code. To help you understand what your cell cycle deems as necessary let’s start by taking into consideration what activated folate does. Activated folate (named 5MTHF) provides its methyl group to other nutrients and substances. We call this “methylation.” Your body requires this to create every cell in your body.Activated folate goes beyond the creation of cells. It is also used to produce energy, detoxify chemicals, process hormones, create and process dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and seratonin- neurotransmitters a cellular perspective. If you are under stress it can change the gene expression in your body and if not treated, disease switches can be turned on. Stress reduces the body’s ability to properly methlyate. This blocks the transfer of methyl from 5MTHF to other substances and your cell cycle becomes a bashed up assembly line with the end result being the decline of wellness. This is why it is important to know your genetic markers and treat them so that optimum health is achieved before conditions of illness set in. If you do not know then how can you treat yourself well? Stress can affect your health in so many ways. One way to manage stress even if you have not been tested yet is to make sure that you are managing stress on a cellular level and consider taking activated folate instead of folic acid.Your B complex vitamin should read “folate” or “methylfolate” instead of “folic acid.” The right form is crucial to your health.

This all makes sense as to why my son was feeling the way he was and what a amazing answer we found to his problematic core. His difficulties turned into a huge resource center of information that now can help others by educating them on their lifestyle according to their genetics.

To find out if you have an MTHFR mutation you can simply get a cheek swab test. In addition to this you should consider getting a finger prick food sensitivity test done as well to find out your food sensitivities so that you can avoid inflammatory foods that slow down the cycle of the cell and block your body from living in wellness.

Both tests can be done in less than an hour and you can contact me for these tests. Not only will you know your genetic mutations but will also discover what food to eat in abundance that are safe and beneficial for your body but also know what foods to eat in moderation or avoid all together to raise wellness. We will then go over your results and you can plan meals and supplement ordering accordingly and purposefully. The tests are relatively inexpensive and are not generally covered by insurance but worth the investment in your health. Just think of all the money you will save on future prescriptions and senseless food and supplement purchases by knowing your body’s needs on a cellular level let alone the alleviation of downtime from feeling ill. This can really add up.

When you take the power of knowing you into your own hands, you have just bypassed all the guesswork in choosing foods and supplements that you may THINK are good for you and confirmed whether they are or not. In turn, your body will thank you for it.

Featured image

Okay, so it happened…

We can go on and on about what went down and where it went wrong, but the fact remains that this is where you are now. So, what are you going to do?

Well, I will tell you. You are going to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and quit freaking out as it is going to be okay. As a relationship coach, makeover coach, health coach, and experienced professional matchmaker, I have heard it all and seen it all so I know what works, what does not, how to redirect your thought patterns and habits, how to dress, colors to wear, where to find dates, conversation ideas, and do’s/don’ts that will surely impact your game.

So, here we go!

1. First thought of the day: I am awesome…let’s do this!

You have a new lease on life so this is an opportunity to recreate yourself into who you want to be. Inside you are all those passions, desires, inspirations that may have been hibernating and the season is now to heat them up. Let them out and have a killer time doing it! Spread those wings, baby!

2. Your new haute look:

Go through magazines in print and online and save images to Pinterest. This will give you a collage to refer to and then go shopping! It doesn’t have to be expensive to look AMAZING! Get a new hair style or color. Pop your “new you” and love every minute of it. It is YOUR time! Rock some new kicks and feel how good you look strutting your stuff. Own it!

3. Consider a Health Coach

Now, let’s talk real here…It certainly will help you to get back in the game by taking good care of yourself. A new exercise routine will break you out of not only a funk, but will boost your brain function as well. Your confidence will soar and your body will thank you. A “getting back in the game” booster for dieting and feeling amazing is to talk to a health coach and find out what foods work best with your body so that you feel good inside and out and function at an optimal level. If you “think” you are eating healthy by going all organic, vegan, paleo…think again. There are certain foods that work well with you and others that cause inflammation that you may not be aware of. Nutrition is very personal so FIND OUT!

4. Hire a Relationship Coach :

A Relationship Coach will get down to the nitty-gritty of what is going on with you currently and help you get to where you want to be. A huge part of your success in dating or just going solo for a while is all about how you feel and a Relationship Coach will get you focused by using “thought shifter nuggets” that are very powerful and enable you to break through barriers that are holding you back from moving into the right direction and creating your new jam!

5. Once you have all this in the works we then get to the  “where to find dates” gig:

Working all day and feeling like you don’t want to do the bar scene? No one really does so scratch that off the venue list. Find a passion or charitable group that you would love to spend your free time doing. In those groups are others that are there for the same purpose and …well… what do you know…you already have something in common should you meet a single cutie there! That single person will see you in your element and being authentic (which we all appreciate…NO POSERS, PLEASE) and that is attractive! You can also try your hand at a matchmaking service and see if that is the right thing for you. Meetup groups are great as well as they are geared toward your specific interest. Join a few of them and attend their outings.

6.Coming off cool:

When you are dating again, keep calm and roll with it. Stay positive and leave out the ex talk. That will keep the mood positive and up the possibility of a future date! Be open to a point and leave some in the vault for future conversation. Attraction builds when a person wants to know more about you and the only way they can do that is to see you more! Watch your body language and make eye contact. Ask questions and be attentive when they reply. It feels good when the person you are talking to repeats back a few topics you hit on. It shows that they are interested in what you have to say.

7. Be my bra:

Support groups are a great way to find a shoulder, lend an ear, and feel less of an alien in your new frontier. You can Google support groups in your area and see what they are all about through their website.

8. Making new friends when it gets weird to be around your old married ones:

Let’s face it, it gets weird being around couples that you use to hang with when you were married. Yep, that feels awkward! Try your best to not bash the ever-living *&#^ out of your ex because, really, they don’t want to hear it! It make them feel weird too. New experiences bring new friends. Introduce yourself when you are out on the town or at a venue you enjoy, and get smiling! For those that are more of online jockeys, join online chats, etc… Start a conversation that you feel good about and that you enjoy talking about and watch it blossom. You will attract new people and will make friends from it. Very cool!

9. Your new pad or reviving an old one:

Get creative! Find an inspiration and go with it. Get a new bedspread, art, plants, rug, couch, theme. Reveal what’s pulsing inside you and makes you feel good and your place will hug you when you walk in. You can make it any desire you want as it is your to play in! That in itself will lift your spirit and give you a boost to do something new again.

10. Take time:

Take time to be alone as well and get comfortable with your own company. It pays off in waves when you tap into your own dwelling. Answers come when we are silent it seems. Play music, paint, cook, meditate, whatev…. Create a space in your home that is personal and quiet. That can be an awesome retreat space for yourself. Get in there and recharge!
